China continues to be the country with the largest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Myanmar with more than $14 billion invested as of this year. Popular sectors for foreign investment include manufacturing, mining, hotels and tourism, real estate, agriculture and construction. But by far, the the most favored sector comprising 41% of investment is the energy sector. Following China, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore are countries also in the top tier. Investments include 100% foreign owners and joint ventures with domestic companies.
Plans are in place to include a single investment law for all investors combining the 2012 Foreign Investment Law and the Myanmar Citizen Investment Law.
