The Hilton and Novotel hotel projects in Yangon have faced construction delays as has the MGallery Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. The delays are symptomatic of what corporations and foreign hotel companies face here. They expect a fast and easy process as they typically experience in many other countries but the reality of how Myanmar currently operates quickly sets in. Delays are caused by holdups of materials which need to be imported and also finding and retaining skilled construction workers.
But the delays have not dampened the enthusiasm of the major hotel chains as visitor arrivals to Myanmar continue to grow strongly. For instance, Accor Hotels will be developing three more projects by bringing their Pullman and Sebel brands to Yangon. They are expected to build a new Novotel Hotel in the Inle Lake area as well. Hilton has stated it is pursuing projects in Bagan, Nay Pyi Taw and also Mandalay.
