Kalaw is a small hill station located 50 kilometer west of Inle Lake. It is a perfect blend of Indian and Nepalese culture which is also evident in the cuisine here. The hill station is ideal for walks and treks. You can discover the hilly tribal villages and the people living there.
The morning market is worth a visit here as there are many colonial ruins which are worth visiting. Between Kalaw and Inle Lake is a place called Pindaya famous for paper umbrellas. The best way to explore is through walking through pine forests and picturesque mountains.
Amara is the only place where travelers to Kalaw can stay. This colonial residence built in 1902 was transformed into a hotel in 2002. Guests can get spectacular views of the Shaan Mountains from this place.
