The Dutch government is funding a three year initiative to develop tourism in Kayah State. The area of previous long running conflict has been under ceasefire now since 2012. There are many attractive sites including scenic mountains, waterfalls and rolling rivers. It is also home to several ethnic groups including the Paduang whose women wear necklace rings giving the appearance of having a long neck.
It is expected that Kayah will join Myanmar’s other famous site on tourists’ travel itineraries. Presently, there are restrictions to major towns for visiting tourists due to landmines.
