Marriott Hotels recently pulled out of a hotel project in Nay Pyi Taw due to a quality control dispute. Supposedly, stringent inspections by Marriott of hotel construction were putting the project behind schedule. Kempinski, the Swiss hotel chain, then stepped in to take over the project and signed a deal with Kanbawza Group in late March. Under the deal, Kanbawza will own the property and Kempinski will run it. The hotel is scheduled to open May 1st. Kempinski operates 75 hotels in 30 countries including Siam Kempinski in Bangkok.
