NgweSaung beach is an unspoilt and serene beach resort around 50km westward from Pathein in the Irrawaddy region, Myanmar. It faces the Bay of Bengal and is beautifully laced with tall green swaying palms as its outline. NgweSaung is expensive and also a little farther from the city, hence witnessing much less footfalls and is a lot cleaner and peacefully quiet. It’s a virgin stretch of silver sand of a sprawling length of almost 15km and is equipped with modern amenities but nightlife and other posh developments are still quite scarce. So, NgweSaung is a good choice if you want to enjoy an unending undisturbed unspoilt view of the blue sea and its white silvery beach to soothe your worried soul.
Reaching NgweSaung is easy. The buses from Pathein and Yangon run at regular intervals with travelers. From Yangon they are usually scheduled at 6.30am, 7.30am and also in the night for 9000Kyat, departing from the Hlaing Thar Yar Bus terminal at western Yangon, whereas from Pathein there is only one bus at 2pm which is for 4000Kyat. If you miss that or it doesn’t run that day you can hire a cab or jump into a jumbo, less than 5000Kyat but you must be a champion bargainer! This whole journey should take you around 6hours. You can also try sailing to Pathein from Yangon on a boat.
During the day you may take a trip around on a hired taxi or rent a bicycle or scooter to visit the local village. One thing you should not miss is the elephant training camp located between Ngwe Saung and Pathein to get an interesting view of these beastly beauties. Lovers’ Island presents an interesting ambience for couples to enjoy the romantic mood. For the food, you have to rely on your hotel only, however, locally brewed lager and stout beers are cheap and new drinks to try.
Ngwe Saung is a good place to visit if you love the sea and want to be lodged away in the quiets, detached from your daily hustle and very importantly don’t have a constrained budget.
Ngwe Saung is also known as the Silver Beach. Located south of Ngapali it is closer to Yangon. This is one of the best laid back spot. Tourists can enjoy activities like snorkeling and scuba diving. Bikers can enjoy exploring the 15 kilometer long beach with a bike. Excellent resorts are spread along the beach where you can enjoy fantastic sea food.
