The inter-faith disturbances in July resulting in imposition of a curfew has had minimal effect if any on tourism. The curfew was lifted August 11th and as data shows that the first seven months of 2014 have already exceeded last year’s total. Since the curfew’s lifting tourist arrivals went up 25%.
Mandalay tourism officials are upbeat on the rest of the year and plan to have various cultural shows to draw more tourists during the coming high season. Mandalay is the second most visited destination in the country following Yangon.
