Mandalay Central Railway Station – Mandalay Attractions
The Mandalay Central Railway Station is one of the largest in the country and is situated in downtown Mandalay. It serves as the gateway for Upper Myanmar to the national rail network which stretches over 3126 miles. It serves as the terminus of the main line that begins from Yangon and branches into Lashio, Pyin U Lwin, Gangaw, Monywa, Kalay, Pakokku and then to the northern regions of Kawlin, Shwebo, Kanbalu, Naba, Mogaung, Mohnyin, Myitkyina and Hopin.
The station is located inside a seven-story complex. The complex also includes a hotel. The old station is located further south. The station also comprises an MTT office which is run by the government. Visitors to the city can avail all information on train timings in English from here.
There are two trains from Bagan that run twice a day and the journey spans around 8 hours. The train from Lashio starts quite early in the morning and while the journey takes around 16 hours, it involves some wonderful sceneries and the famous Gokteik viaduct.
