The Mandalay Central Railway Station is one of the largest in the country and is situated in downtown Mandalay.  It serves as the gateway for Upper Myanmar to the national rail network which stretches over 3126 miles. It serves as the terminus of the main line that begins from Yangon and branches into Lashio, Pyin U Lwin, Gangaw, Monywa, Kalay, Pakokku and then to the northern regions of Kawlin, Shwebo, Kanbalu, Naba, Mogaung, Mohnyin, Myitkyina and Hopin.

The station is located inside a seven-story complex. The complex also includes a hotel. The old station is located further south.  The station also comprises an MTT office which is run by the government. Visitors to the city can avail all information on train timings in English from here.

There are two trains from Bagan that run twice a day and the journey spans around 8 hours.  The train from Lashio starts quite early in the morning and while the journey takes around 16 hours, it involves some wonderful sceneries and the famous Gokteik viaduct.

The Mandalay Central Railway Station offers you an opportunity to explore the country on trains, which can prove to be one of the most fascinating ways to explore the country. The journeys provide some of the most breathtaking sights and also the opportunity to mingle with the local people.  The sleeper carriages and the upper classes ensure a more comfortable journey than riding buses on bumpy roads.

So if you are in Mandalay, head off to the Mandalay Central Railways station to book your tickets onboard one of the trains that take you in and around Mandalay.
