Taw Win Art Gallery
Located in the Aung San Market, the Taw Win Art gallery makes for one of the most notable art galleries in Yangon. The art scene in Yangon (Rangoon), Burma has been evolving slowly even in the wake of a checkered socio-political and economical background. Some of the greatest works of the new breed of painters aptly reflect the variant struggles faced by Myanmar at large. The Taw Win art gallery, like the other famous art galleries of Yangon like The River Gallery and the New Zero Art Space, showcases the works of the contemporary Myanmar artists.
The famous art gallery has been supporting artworks of young artists since the year 2002. Some of the most promising young painters whose works have been showcased here are Lu Yaung Saung, Tin Maung Win (Pyi), Byardate, and Moe Myint Zaw. It supports art exhibitions as well.
The gallery is owned and managed by a man of Indian descent who is particularly fond of encouraging new artists in the scene. He is yet to price his painters out of the average traveler’s market. One can easily find some of the most innovative pieces of art within a reasonable price range (i.e. $100- $ 300). It is expected that within years the value of these paintings would escalate thereby providing the much coveted push to the Myanmar art scene.
